Redmi outshines Real, set to launch its 64MP camera phone on August 7

Xiaomi backed Redmi may have just beat Realme to the punch as it has scheduled a launch event for later this month in China where it might unveil its first 64MP camera smartphone.

Redmi has chosen August 7th for the launch of its 64MP camera smartphone, effectively outsmarting OPPO spin-off Realme. Recall that Realme earlier this month sent out invites to its“Realme Camera Innovation Event” in New Delhi, India on August 8. The OPPO spin-off brand has teased a smartphone with a quad-camera setup and 64-megapixel lens for the event.

And much like Realme, we are not sure if the brand will reveal the actual phone with the 64MP camera, or just a demo of the future of mobile photography. The later seems to be the case, as the invite poster has a tagline that reads “Images of The Future”.

Samsung’s new ISOCELL Bright GW1 sensor

For both brands, the true identity of respective devices that will house the 64MP camera sensor is still under wraps, but more official teasers will surely come our way in the coming days. Whatever the case is, these two Chinese brand no doubt will be the first two OEMs to churn out smartphones with Samsung’s new ISOCELL Bright GW1 sensor, which was unveiled just last month. The sensor has a 0.8μm pixel size, resulting in a 1/1.8-inch module. The sensor will leverage pixel-binning to produce 16MP shots in low-light environments, and use a re-mosaic algorithm to deliver full-res shots in daylight conditions. It can also deliver real-time HDR with “richer hues,” 1080p video recording at 480fps, and “high-performance” phase detection autofocus.
