Redmi Note 8 Pro is official, brings a 64MP camera and Helio G90T

OPPO’s backed Realme did try to outshine the Xiaomi backed Redmi, but while the Realme XT hasn’t been publicly announced, the Redmi brand has today announced the World’s first 64MP camera smartphone. Welcome the Redmi Note 8 Pro, launched alongside the Redmi Note 8 as expected.

Both devices succeed the Redmi Note 7 and Note 7 Pro, and are both quad-camera devices at budget prices. The Redmi Note 8 Pro is the most fascinating, and that means the Note 8 is the most affordable of the duo.

Starting off with the vanilla Redmi Note 8, the device much like the Pro variant gets a Quad-camera setup but can be easily differentiated. While the Pro version gets a centrally placed Quad cam arrangement, the Redmi Note 8 gets its camera setup shifted to the left. That position allows for a Fingerprint scanner which the Note 8 Pro lacks.

Redmi Note 8 Specs and features

Available in three colors – Dream Blue, Meteorite Black, and White paint jobs, the Redmi Note 8 gets a gradient design and comes fitted with a rear fingerprint scanner. On the front, the device flaunts a 6.39-inch full-HD+ (1080×2340 pixels) display similar to the Redmi K20, with a 90 percent screen-to-body ratio and 19.5:9 aspect ratio. It has a water-drop notch with Gorilla Glass 5 on both sides. At the heart of the device is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 SoC, paired with up to 6GB of RAM.

The Redmi Note 8 like we highlighted earlier gets a total of four rear cameras. The main cam is a 48-megapixel primary shooter, coupled with an 8-megapixel wide-angle shooter, and two 2-megapixel cameras. Inside the notch, the device has a 13-megapixel shooter for selfie and video calls.

Obviously, it runs on Android 9 Pie with MIUI 10 out of the box, while it is fueled by a 4000mAh battery with 18W fast charging support. It gets a USB Type-C port, 3.5mm audio jack, and IR blaster.

Redmi Note 8 Pro

The Redmi Note 8 Pro gets a slightly larger footprint – a 6.53-inch Full HD+ LCD screen with 2.05mm narrow top frame, 1.8mm narrow left and right borders and 4.2mm bottom border offering 91.4% screen-to-body ratio and has TÜV Rheinland eye protection certification. It drops the SD 655 for Mediatek’s Helio G90T- making it the first device to use the gaming-focused SoC. And just like we reported earlier, the device includes a liquid cooling feature that can supposedly reduce the temperature of the phone by 4 to 6 degrees. It is available only in 6/8 GB RAM and 64/128 GB storage version.

On the flip side, the Redmi Note 8 Pro gets a similar Quad-cam setup but lacks the rear fingerprint scanner. Redmi opted for the in-display scanner.

The phone gets a larger 4500mAh battery with 1W fast charging, Quick Charge 3.0 / 4+, USB PD and MediaTek Pump Express.

The Redmi Note 8 Pro drops the 16MP selfie sensor for a 20 MP with plenty of AI features and scene recognition options. On the flip side, it ditches the 48MP sensor for a 64 MP main shooter with the same 8 MP ultra-wide + 2 MP depth + 2 MP macro combo as in the Redmi Note 8.

Redmi also has a World of Warcraft Limited Edition Note 8 pro with custom cases, themes along with other accessories, though we are not sure if the device is the same with the standard Note 8 Pro.

The Note 8 Pro will hit the shelves later in September at a starting of CNY1,399 ($195/€175) for the 6/64 GB option, while the variant with f8/128 GB will sell for as much as CNY1,799 ($250/€225) .
