Realme 5 and Realme 5 Pro announced in India, bring Quad-camera, new chipset at low price

Realme earlier today continued its launching spree with the unleashing of the Realme 5 and Realme 5 Pro. Both devices are its latest budget devices and the sequel to the Realme 3 and 3 Pro. The Oppo sub-brand with this release essentially skipped the 4 monikers.

At extremely low prices, both devices boast of a Quad-camera setup with some noteworthy internals. The Realme 5 Pro is the more advanced of the duo, and that too comes at a higher price tag.

Realme 5 Pro

The Realme 5 Pro, much like the vanilla Realme 5 gets a new crystal cut design with splash resistance with a 3D curved glossy rear panel and a diamond-but pattern design. It comes only in Crystal Green and Sparkling Blue. There is a rear fingerprint scanner, dedicated microSD slot, and dual SIM slots which are all common to both devices.

Despite bearing the Pro moniker, the Realme 5 Pro has a slightly smaller footprint bearing a – 6.3″ display with 19.5:9 aspect and Full HD+ resolution. It is about 15% lighter than the vanilla Realme 5, all thanks to its 4,035 mAh battery. The battery comes with VOOC 3.0 20W fast charging support and gets topped up over a USB-C port. There is also AI Freezer function that studies your habits and adjusts background app running to save power.

Under the hood, the device gets a slightly upgraded SD 712 SoC compared to the 710 on the Realme 3 Pro. The RM5 Pro is available in multiple storage variants including  — 4+64GB, 6+64GB, and 8+128GB variants all of which are expanded up to 512GB via MicroSD card.

Coming to the cameras, the Realme 5 Pro comes fitted with a quad-camera setup on the back and a single shooter on the front. The main shooter is a 48MP primary sensor with f/1.8 aperture, with a second 8MP f/2.25 ultra-wide-angle camera, a 2MP camera for portraits, and a 2MP macro shooter. For selfies, it gets a 16MP sensor with an f/2.0 aperture.

Realme 5

The Realme 5 is the most basic of the duo but still packs some noteworthy features. First, it gets the same design with a larger display – at 6.5″, but with a lower 720p resolution. Under the hood, the RM5 drops the SD 712 for a Snapdragon 665 processor with up to 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. There is also room for memory expansion up to 512GB, while it also retains the headphone jack.

The Realme 5, however, edges the RM5 Pro in the camera unit. It gets a larger battery capacity at 5000mAh up from the 4000mAh on the vanilla version. Sadly, the devices charges over a micro USB port with 10W charging, and that means there is no fast charging for the RM5.

In the camera unit, the RM5 has similar Quad-camera arrangement as the Pro variant. It, however, drops the 48MP sensor for 12 megapixels sensor, while the selfie camera is a now a 13MP sensor down from 16MP.
