Good knowledge of the various PlayStation 4 error codes will better help you stay up to date on the best quick fixes for them whenever they occur.
Every gamer knows how frustrating it can be to consistently encounter error codes while playing a video game. The same also applies to gaming using the PlayStation 4 console.
After more than eight (8) years since the launch of the PlayStation 4 game console, we might think that by now there wouldn’t be any more problems with the device, seeing that is must have undergone series of upgrades and updates.
Still, it’s safe to say that some of the problems faced by early users of the PlayStation 4 console are no longer available today. Some of these error codes include the blue line of death that causes the graphics on the screen to become distorted and the sounds to be discordant.
Now, even though such dreaded problems are no longer in existence again, the newer products of the PlayStation 4 may still experience problems. Some of these problems may include the PlayStation 4 console automatically ejecting disks.
Before we dive into all PlayStation 4 error codes and how to fix them, you need to understand that not all error codes are common to all PlayStation boxes.
This is because PlayStation 4 consoles come in different models (the standard PlayStation 4, PlayStation 4 Slim, and the PlayStation 4 pro).
Determining whether you own a PlayStation 4 or a PlayStation 4 slim can be difficult sometimes because they both look alike.
If you are finding it difficult to tell whether or not the device you own is the standard PlayStation 4 or the PlayStation 4 slim, then just simply look at the edges of your PlayStation console.
If the edges of your console look sharp, then just know that you are using the standard PlayStation 4, but if they are rounded, then it’s definitely the PlayStation 4 slim.
PlayStation 4 Error Codes
In computer programming, an error code (also known as a return code) is a numbered or alphanumeric code that is used to determine the nature of an error and why it occurred.
PlayStation 4 error codes are made up of a string containing two letters with a specific meaning. It also consists of five (5) digits that are followed by a hyphen and a final digit.
All these are often returned by the PlayStation system software.
In solving PlayStation 4 error codes, you don’t need to bother yourself with the digits involved.
All you have to do is to simply take a look at the two (2) letters before the digits. This will give you better insights on the nature of the problem.
PlayStation 4 error codes are divided into different categories and all errors you may encounter fall into any of these categories:
- CE Error Codes: General errors.
- E Error Codes: External type errors.
- NP Error Codes: Network Server related errors
- NW Error Codes: Web library errors.
- SU Error Codes: System update errors.
- WV and WS Error Codes: Version or web connection errors to certain services (PSN).
Common Solutions to PlayStation 4 Error Codes
Most of the time, the solution to all your PlayStation 4 problems could be as easy as rebooting the device.
Some other common solutions for fixing PlayStation 4 error codes include:
- Update the firmware
- Check the HDMI ports
- Perform routine hard disk check
#1: Update the Firmware
Some of the problems we encounter when using the PlayStation 4 could arise as a result of using outdated firmware on your television or game console. With outdated firmware, you can encounter errors due to lack of audio, video, or even internet connection for internet-enabled televisions (Smart TVs) and a quick update can resolve some if not all of the problems you may have encountered.
#2: Check the HDMI Ports
It is important to always check the status of your HDMI ports and cables for both your console and the TV. Some problems like your system failing to display any graphics or having issues connecting to your HDTV are usually related to HDMI ports and can be easily avoided if routine checks are done on these cables.
#3: Perform Routine Hard Disk Check
Problems with your hard disk always have huge impacts on your PlayStation 4, so performing routine checks on it is important because the problem you may be facing might have resulted from a faulty hard disk. You can perform a hard disk check by following these simple steps:
- Ensure your PlayStation 4 is turned off.
- Disconnect the AC power cord and all connected cables.
- Slide the HDD bay cover upwards.
- Now, you can inspect the hard disk for any potential damage and ensure that it is properly seated in the HDD bay.
If you have tried all the above fixes to common problems you may face while using your PlayStation 4 and it doesn’t seem to solve the problem, then it could only mean one thing, which is the problem, is particular and therefore needs a specific fix. Well, not to worry in today’s guide we’ll be treating all PlayStation 4 error codes and fixes.
