Oneplus 7T is official: brings SD 855+, 90 Hz refresh rate, HDR10+ support

Oneplus just announced the Oneplus 7T – the follow up to the Oneplus 7 that never came to the US. The firm announced the device at a dedicated event where is also unveiled the Oneplus TV in India earlier today. As expected, the Oneplus 7T is a mild upgrade over the Oneplus 7, and that means not many things have changed.

Just before we delve into the details, let’s talk about the Oneplus 7T pricing and rollout details for India, US, U.K, China, and other markets. In India, the Oneplus 7T will be available for sale from September 28 at INR 38,000 for 128GB storage and INR 40,000 for the 256GB option. Pricing and availability details for the UK wont be out until October 10 when the device is expected to be announced for the Global market.

In the US, the Oneplus 7T will be sold exclusively by T-Mobile beginning from Oct. 18, while Verizon and AT&T users can buy an unlocked version from OnePlus’ website. Pricing in the US starts at $599 for the variant with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.

Speaking of the few upgrades, the 90Hz AMOLED display on the Oneplus 7 Pro trickles down to the Oneplus 7T, while it gets an extra wide-angle camera lens aking a total of three cameras. It also comes with more RAM (2GB more), more battery with faster charging (Warp Charge 30T), and of course, the latest overclocked Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Plus.

The phone comes with a frosted glass back, and it is available in two colors including the Glacier Blue, and a grey color option. The rear unlike that of the OnePlus 7 Pro with a vertical camera setup, the Oneplus 7T has a circular camera setup housing the same number of camera sensors. Beyond the sensors, however, the camera specs look identical. On the rear of the phone is a 48MP wide-angle camera that’s combined with a 12MP telephoto camera for 2x optical zoom and a 16MP ultra-wide snapper.

New to the 7T is a new Macro Lens that allows you to get impressive macro shots using the rear camera, as well as a new Super Stable mode that combines an “ultra-precise gyroscope” with electronic image stabilization to create more stable video footage.

Furthermore, the Portrait Mode now allows you to use the telephoto lens for the bokeh style mode, while the ultra-wide angle camera now supports NightScape mode.

Up front, the device gets a teardrop cutout atop the display similar to the Oneplus 6T. The cutout is home to a16-megapixel front-facing camera.

Aside from the camera upgrades, the device features a 6.55-inch display with 1080p+ resolution down from 7 pro’s  QHD, features a 90Hz refresh rate, a 20:9 aspect ratio and an optical fingerprint sensor underneath. It also comes with support for HDR10+ so you can enjoy the expanded color range of new movies and TV shows.

It drops the standard SD 855 for the Snapdragon 855 Plus processor and is now powered by Android 10. It gets a slightly smaller battery – 3,700mAh unit with a new Warp Charge 30T that promise to fully charge the phone within an hour. Still, the Oneplus 7T forgoes wireless charging or official IP-rated water resistance.
