It could be someone you don’t see eye to eye with, a spammer who always sends you irrelevant messages, or someone you just don’t want to connect with anymore for your mental health (a good example would be an ex). Whatever your reasons are, knowing how to block someone from texting would come in handy in times like that. How to Block Someone’s Text Messages on Android and iPhone

The method for blocking text messages on iPhone is different from the method or approach you’d follow if want to do the same on an Andriod. It doesn’t matter if you own an Andriod device, an iPhone device, or even both because in this article you’ll learn how to block text messages on devices operating on both Android and iOS platforms.

On an iPhone, you can block texts from a contact saved on your device, block text from numbers that are not saved on your device or private, as well as report spam messages.

The procedure on Andriod isn’t as smooth as that of an iPhone. The block messages feature on Andriod varies between devices and it depends on the type of Andriod you are using and the operating system you have installed on your device.

For Andriod, most apps work like the Google Messages app – that’s the stock messaging app on Google phones like the Google Pixel phones. If your default apps behave like the Google Messaging app, then you can use the steps I’ll be showing shortly to block numbers you no longer want to receive texts from. Samsung messaging app behaves differently and I’ll be showing you how to go about it. Finally, there’s the third-party app approach you can use if both approaches I’ll be teaching you doesn’t work on your Andriod device.

How to Block Someone’s Text Messages on iPhone (Using the Messages app)

The easiest way to block someone on your iPhone is via the preinstalled messaging app. To learn how to block someone’s text messages on the iPhone’s messaging app, follow the set of instructions outlined below:

Open the messaging
Locate conversation from the person you want to block and tap on it.
Tap on their profile photo or name found at the top of the message.
Now tap on the info
Finally, tap on Block this caller.

And that’s it, messages from that number will be blocked and you’ll no longer be able to view them.

How to Block Someone’s Text Messages on iPhone (Using Contacts)

Asides from using your messages app on your iPhone, you can block messages from anybody by simply blocking the person’s contact.

When you block someone using this approach and the approach above, the contact will also not be able to call or FaceTime you which actually saves you the stress of blocking one person severally on different apps. To learn how to do that, follow the set of instructions outlined below:

Open your Settings It’s the gear-like icon.
On the app, scroll and locate Messages. When you do, tap on it.
Tap on Blocked contacts.
Tap on Add New and select the contact you’d love to block from your list of contacts. You won’t be able to mark the contacts as they can only be added one after the other.

How to Block Someone’s Text Messages on iPhone (Blocking Private or Unknown numbers)

Unlike the other two methods used above, if the person sending you the text messages uses an unknown or private number, you won’t be able to block them. In that case, for unknown or private numbers, we’ll be using a slightly different approach.

For unknown or private numbers, in order to stop receiving messages from them, what you’d do is to separate them from the contacts you know. This means you’ll have to create a new tab on your messaging app and tag it, Unknown Senders. Doing this doesn’t block the numbers but it stops you from receiving notifications from them. It may not be perfect, but it’s a decent compromise.

To learn how to do it, follow the instructions outlined below:

Navigate to your Settings app and tap on it.
Scroll and locate Messages then tap on it.
Finally, toggle Filter Unknown Senders.

How to Block Someone’s Text Messages on iPhone (Report Spam iMessages)

Another way you can block someone or a certain number from texting you is by reporting their messages as spam and junk. When an unknown contact texts you via iMessage, there should be a Report Junk link, tap on that link to send the contacts information and message to Apple.

When you do this, Apple will deal with the unknown number and they will no longer be able to text you. Alternatively, you can also email Apple via imessage.spam@apple.com. However, to use this method you’ll need a screenshot of the message as well as the email address or phone number belonging to the contact that sent the message as well as the date and time in which the message was sent.

How to Block Someone’s Text Messages on Andriod (Using the Messaging App)

If you use a Google Pixel device or a device where the messaging app functions more like Google’s messaging app, then the steps I’ll be showing you will work for you. To learn how to block someone’s text messages on Andriod, follow the set of instructions outlined below:

Open the Messagingapp on your device.
Tap on the conversation between you and the person you wish to block.
You’ll find a three-dot menu at the top right corner of your screen, tap on it. This action should reveal a drop-down menu.
On that menu, tap on Details.
On the Details section, tap on Block & report spam.
If you want to report the messages as spam, when the check-box pops up, check the box for Report spam. If you don’t want to tap on OK to block all future messages from that contact.

If you tried this approach and it doesn’t work the same on the messaging app installed on your device, then you can install the Google Messaging app from PlayStore and make it your default messaging app and then carry out the steps. You can as well download other third-party apps to carry out the same thing but I’ll be showing you that later on in the guide so keep reading.

How to Block Someone’s Text Messages on Andriod (Samsung Messaging App)

If you own a Samsung Andriod device then you’d realise that trying the method above doesn’t work and that’s because the Samsung messaging app doesn’t behave like Google’s messaging app. This behaviour is not unique to Samsung brands alone. There are a lot of other brands that have messaging apps that behave differently from Google’s messaging app.

If you own a Samsung device and you’d love to block a number from sending you messages, follow the set of instructions outlined below:

For Unsaved Contacts

Open the messaging app on your Samsung device
Tap on the conversation you’ll love to block.
Tap on Block Number found at the top of the message.
On the dialogue box that pops up, you can choose to Delete conversation before tapping on Block. Deleting the conversations removes the number from your conversation list.

For Saved Contacts

Open the messaging app on your Samsung device
Tap on the conversation you’ll love to block.
Tap on the three-dot menu found at the top right corner of your screen.
On the menu, tap on Block contact.
Again, this action will reveal a dialogue box where you can choose to remove the conversation from your conversation list by tapping on Delete conversation before tapping on Block.

How to Block Someone’s Text Messages on Andriod (Via Other Third-party Apps)

There are a lot of third-party apps you can find on the Google PlayStore app you can install, make your default messaging app and then use the app to block text messages on your device. In this guide, however, we’ll be taking a look at three different third party messaging apps you can use.

Google Voice

If you have or you downloaded the Google Voice messaging app from Google PlayStore. Then follow the set of instructions outlined below to learn how to block someone’s text on Andriod using Google Voice.

Open the messaging app
select the conversation you wish to block and tap on the menu button.
Tap on People & options.
Now tap on Block.

Skype

To learn how to block someone’s text on Andriod using Skype messaging app, follow the set of instructions outlined below:

Open the Skype messaging
Tap on the conversation you wish to block.
Tap on the individual’s contact name found at the top of the screen. This should reveal a menu.
Scroll to the end of the menu and tap on Block contact.
