What is ConfigAPK? is it safe? What are the advantages? Can I uninstall it? If you are clueless about the above questions then today’s guide was made for you because you’ll be learning about ConfigAPK – What it is, and how to delete it.
What is ConfigAPK?
ConfigAPK is a preinstalled application (system app) that is found in all Andriod devices. It is an executable that runs in the background of Andriod devices. It is used for system configuration and automatic app installation in Andriod devices during the first device setup. It also does the installation or uninstallation task on your Andriod device.
The earliest record of the ConfigAPK on Andriod dates back to Andriod 5.0 (Lollipop). The ConfigAPK is only 20 KB, has the application ID “andriod.autoinstalls.config” and it usually doesn’t affect your device in any way but there have been situations where different Andriod users complained about the app slowing the phone down or drains the battery faster.
Do you have a similar experience? Then it’s high time you uninstalled the app. If you don’t how to do this, don’t fret, as part of today’s article, “ConfigAPK – What it is, and how to delete it” I’ll be teaching you how to uninstall the app.
There are some Andriod users who have seen their phones malfunction because of the ConfigAPK app. In this section, we’ll be looking at some of the problems that ConfigAPK has caused.
Battery Drain Problems
Several Andriod users have reported that the app has caused their battery to drain faster than it normally should. If this claim is true, one cannot really tell since there is no evidence or authorized source to prove that the battery problems are caused by the ConfigAPK app.
The ConfigAPK runs in the background
Since the ConfigAPK runs in the background, one could say that it’s the reason why your battery drains faster than it normally would. Unlike many system apps, disabling or removing the ConfigAPK app from your device, will not affect the normal operation of your android.
The ConfigAPK starts crashing frequently
When the ConfigAPK app starts crashing frequently, it hinders you from freely accessing your device which can be frustrating. The reason for this may stem from the fact that there was some cache conflict or a corrupt file installation. For this problem, rather than deleting the software, you can perform a small task, and to do that you’d have to head to Settings, then select App, select ConfigAPK, and tap on the clear cache to fix the error.
Is the ConfigAPK app a virus?
The short and simple answer is No. ConfigAPK is not a virus, even though several users have associated the app with a virus which isn’t correct.
Should I delete ConfigAPK?
The ConfigAPK is an important system app which your device uses for system configuration, automatic app installation, and even your language choice set up during the first boot.
A ConfigAPK app is a harmless software, although there have been cases where the app is could inconvenience (creating problems for) the user and for such situations rather than deleting the app, you can just disable the app and if you still want to delete the app, continue reading to learn how.
How to Uninstall ConfigAPK
There are two main methods you can use to remove a system app from your Android device. You can either use the Andriod Debug Bridge (ADB) method which doesn’t require root access and the System App Removal method, which requires root access.
Andriod Debug Bridge (ADB) Method
The ADB is a command-line tool used to communicate with any device running on the Andriod OS. It is used to bring up or pop up a Unix shell that’ll be used to give out commands to your Andriod device. Hence, the command tool can also be used to uninstall the ConfigAPK.
Before you’ll be able to use this method, you’ll be required to have access to a computer. To learn how to use this method, follow the set of instructions outlined below:
- On your device, go to Settings.
- Scroll down and tap on System.
- Select About.
- Tap on the Build number 7 times to activate the Developer Options. If you already have this activated, skip this step.
- Navigate to Developer Options and tap on it.
- Tap on USB Debugging to enable it.
- On your computer, download and install ADB.
- Right-click on the unzipped download file and click on Open Powershell windows here.
- Now, connect your phone to your computer using a USB.
- Input adb drivers into the command prompt. After doing this, a pop will appear on your device, requesting to create an ADB connection. Tap on Allow.
- Input “adb shell pm uninstall -user 0 android.autoinstalls.config” into the command prompt and hit Enter.
Give it a few minutes and the app will be deleted from your device.
System App Removal Method
If your device has not been granted root access, you will not be able to use this method. To be sure if your device is rooted, download the root checker app from the Play Store and check if it is rooted. Once your device has been rooted, follow the set of instructions outlined below to learn how to delete ConfigAPK using the system app Removal method.
Download and install the System App Removal software into your device.
Open the app and type in ConfigAPK into the search bar.
When the app comes up after searching, tap on it.
Now tap on the Uninstall button to permanently remove the app from your device.
