How to Factory Reset Your Airtags
Once your Airtag has been linked to a particular iPhone (Apple ID), it cannot be given off to another person to use with another Apple device. Currently, there are only two methods that can be used to factory reset your Airtags, you can either use “find my app” software or the manual method.
How to Factory Reset Your Airtags (Using Find My App)
To be able to factory reset your Airtags using this method, follow the steps outlined below:
- Open the Find My App on your iPhone or iPad.
- Tap on the Airtag to be reset.
- On the Airtag dialogue, swipe up to reveal all of its settings.
- Tap on the Remove Item You’ll be required to confirm your selection, so tap on Remove again.

You’ll realize that the action performed won’t register and you’ll have to unlink it manually. Factory resetting your Airtags using the manual method simply involves removing the battery from the Airtag and the accompanying steps to follow up afterward.

- Press down the stainless steel back cover of your Airtag and rotate Anti-clockwise until the stainless steel cover stops rotating.
- Pull apart both halves of the Airtag.
- Remove the battery.
- Put the battery back into the device and press down on the battery until it makes a sound.
- Hold until the sound ends and repeat the process of removing and placing the battery back in, 4 more times.
In the end, if the fifth sound, at that point you have successfully done a factory reset on your Airtag using the manual method. From this point onward, the next steps to follow are written below:
- Place the Airtag stainless steel back cover back on and then try to align the three tabs on the cover with the three slots on the Airtag.
