Facebook launched a “Manage Activity tool” recently and this new tool/feature allows users to delete or archive your posts so that other users can no longer see or have access to them. This way once a post is deleted, it remains in the trash for a 30-day period before it is permanently deleted from the network and can no longer the recovered. This comes as no surprise since a similar feature was launched on Instagram last month. This is an important feature, especially for people who use Facebook as their major social networking app to recover posts that were mistakenly deleted.

How to Recover Deleted Posts on Facebook

  • Open your Facebook app.
  • Tap on the 3 horizontal lines located at the top right corner of your screen.
  • Scroll down and select Settings & Privacy.
  • Select Settings.
  • Find Your Facebook Information section and tap on or select Activity Log.
  • Tap on Trash located at the top right corner of your screen.
  • Now you’ll find a list of posts that can be restored. Tap on the box located at the left of any post you want to restore.
  • Tap on Restore. You’ll find it located at the bottom of your screen.
  • Finally, tap on Restore on the confirmation window that appears, confirming that you want to restore your deleted post on Facebook so that other users can once again see or gain access to it.

How to Delete Posts Using Facebook Manage Activity Feature

  • Open your Facebook app on your device.
  • Go to your Facebook profile page (you can perform this action by clicking on the icon showing your display picture).
  • Tap on more (the 3 dots located under your profile picture).
  • Locate and tap on Activity Log.
  • Tap on Manage Activity.
  • Tap on your posts.
  • Locate the post you want to delete and then tap on Trash.
  • Next, tap on Move to Trash.

This way the deleted post has been moved from your timeline to the Trash in Manage Activity where no one will be able to see or have access to it anymore except you. You can only be entitled to this privilege for a maximum of 30 days.

There are other ways to recover deleted posts on Facebook, though not as effective as the method above.

Method 1: Using Notification icon

  1. Open your Facebook app.
  2. Sign in to your account using the email address linked to the app.
  3. Locate and tap the notification icon (shaped like a bell) at the top of your screen.
  4. Check for quotes from your deleted posts. With this method, you can find out the text of your deleted post.

Method 2: Download Your Archived Information

  1. Open your Facebook app on your device.
  2. Tap on the 3 horizontal lines located at the top right corner of your screen.
  3. Under Settings & Privacy section, click on Settings.
  4. Scroll down to Your Facebook Information and select Download Your Information.
  5. Select the data you want to create a backup copy of.
  6. To create an Archive select Request My Download.
  7. Once an archive has been created, you’ll receive a notification sent to your mail linked with Facebook.
  8. From the downloaded data, you can find the deleted posts and other data you may want to recover.
