Once a major name to reckon with in the smartphone industry, Korean smartphone maker LG has been incessantly fading away from the mobile phone arena. While this is due in part to a decline in Smartphone shipments, LG’s failure to adapt to major trends when needed also could be a major reason. Now, the Korean electronics giant is keen on making a strong comeback, as it has now teased the launch of a new smartphone with an intriguing design. While it has now become almost impossible to differentiate one smartphone from others as they all carry virtually the same design, LG’s upcoming device dubbed – the LG Velvet aims to change the narratives, as the upcoming phone will come with an all-new alluring design.
The device first surfaced in a number of unconfirmed reports early this month, and was swiftly followed with official teasers, though with no detailed information. Now, we know a few things about the device, as it has now been officially announced, though still, with no technical details and official release date. Dubbed the LG Velvet, LG in an official post earlier today revealed that its upcoming LG Velvet will come flaunting a “Raindrop” camera lens design and “asymmetrical, flowing form factor that is both pleasing to the eye and pleasing to touch.”
LG in its early morning press release also confirmed prevailing rumors that it will be ditching its alphanumerical naming convention in favor of special features of the device. The LG Velvet, for instance, is intended to evoke images of lustrous smoothness and premium softness, two key characteristics of the new phone. It is not immediately clear if the Korean electronics giant will be entirely dropping the LG G flagship series as earlier rumors, though all that will become clearer in the coming weeks.
LG has yet to officially confirm any spec, pricing, or release date. However, unofficial reports suggest the LG Velvet will come powered by a low-end Snapdragon 765 SoC, while there are indications too, that the Velvet will be officially released on May 15.
