The LG G8 ThinQ from last year failed to stand against the likes of the Galaxy S10, the Oneplus 7 and the flagship Mi 9 from Xiaomi, so a whole lot is expected of the LG G9 ThinQ if the South Korea firm must recapture the heart of its teeming fans World over. Although there were murmurs that the firm might have discontinued the LG G series, a check reveals that the LG G9 and the LG G10 moniker had been trademarked suggesting that both devices will become official in due course.
Assuming LG maintains its yearly release circle, the LG G9 should become official later in February. perhaps at the MWC holding in late February in Barcelona. LG has yet to officially confirm the existence or not of the G9, however, the very first report about the LG G9 has surfaced courtesy of the guys at Cashkaro and the reliable tipster @OnLeaks, who just gave us our first look at the upcoming LG G9 ThinQ in CAD renders.
Unlike the LG G8 ThinQ from last year with a chunky screen notch, dual-lens camera, and rear fingerprint sensor, the renders reveal that the LG G9 ThinQ will get a Svelte design featuring a centrally placed water-drop notch, Quad-camera rear setup, and of course an in-display fingerprint scanner.
While we do not have the screen size, it is apparent from the render that LG is opting for a flat display in an era some OEMs are going the way of dual-curved designs, and a Waterfall Display. The device gets a water-drop notch, and not the punch hole design that is currently the hallmark of flagship devices.
On the flip side, the renders reveal a Quad-camera setup awkwardly placed in a horizontal, while there is the usual a 3.5mm headphone jack, SIM card slot on top and what appears to be an Android Assistant button on the right.
Not much else is known about the LG G9 ThinQ, however, we expect the device to come with the new Snapdragon 865 chipset. The SoC is capable of 5G connectivity, and that puts an end to reports that the G series from this year will be purely 4G enabled, while the V series will all support 5G.
