Xiaomi backed Redmi brand continues adding smartphones to its entire portfolio, the newest member being the Redmi K30 5G which only became official a few days ago. While the K30 might not be available outside of China until 2020, a new report suggests the Chinese phone maker might be preparing a new entry-level smartphone – the Redmi 9.
Brands like Realme and Samsung have weakened Xiaomi’s dominance of the entry-level market, so it comes as no surprise hearing murmurs of the imminent launch of the Redmi 8 when the Redmi 8 series only became official a couple of months ago.
A fresh report on 91mobiles says the Xiaomi backed Redmi might launch the Redmi 9 in the early days of 2020, arriving first in China, before heading to the India market. While the report isn’t clear on the specific launch date, it does gives us a brief insight into the Redmi 9 specifications.
Redmi 9rumored specifications
The report claims the Redmi 9 will make a switch from the efficient octa-core Snapdragon 439 chipset to one of MediaTek’s upcoming chipset – the MediaTek Helio G70 chipset. While we do not know much about the chipset at the moment, the report hints that the chipset will arrive as an inferior version of the Helio G90 and Helio G90T processors.
Other than that, the device is rumored to make a switch from the Redmi 8 6.22-inch display to a notched 6.6-inch display, and hence a larger form factor. It is also tipped to come in 4GB and 64GB storage, while it will boot Android 10 with MIUI 11 out of the box.
Other details including detailed s[ecs, tenders, and exact launch date are still under wrap.
