OnePlus a few days ago announced it will hold a press conference at CES for the first time, a move that has since started fueling all manner of speculations. There are some murmurs the Chinese brand will release the rumored Oneplus 8 Lite, but that can easily be dismissed since the Oneplus 8 series isn’t due until sometime in May 2020.
For the 6 years old company that has never recorded its presence in any of the mobile tech industry’s three biggest annual tradeshows, something big is definitely in the offing. But what could that be? Well, indications have emerged that the Chinese firm might reveal a concept phone which will be its first-ever. This perhaps will take on the likes of the Mix Alpha from its rival -Xaiomi.
According to a new trailer posted on Weibo earlier today, the Chinese firm announced it will be unfolding its first concept smartphone in Las Vegas on January 7, 2020. We don’t have the full details at the moment, but given the “variable design, variable future” keywords in the official trailer, it is easy to assume that it might just be the time for a Foldable Oneplus smartphone.
But on the contrary, the firm through its CEO Pete Lau just a few weeks ago dropped the hint that suggested it might not be leaping into the foldable phone frenzy soon.
“The technology and the ability to have foldable screens are not very mature yet,” Lau told the media after the launch of OnePlus 7T Pro in London weeks back.
Unless of course, the firm has perfected all that is needed to push a foldable phone into the mass market. The CES is set to hold from 7th – 10th Jan 2020 in Las Vegas, Nevada. More revealing teasers about Oneplus’ CES package should be out in the coming days, and we will keep you updated.
