The long-awaited device from Essential may be finally happening soo, just as a tweet from Essential Products CEO Andy Rubin gives its fans World over a glimmer of hope. Yes, it isn’t the end for Essential as far as smartphone is concerned. The CEO Andy Rubin in a tweet earlier gave us a peek at what may be its next Essential phone release, and we must say it is like what we have never seen before.
Dubbed project GEM, the Essential phone is at the moment obviously at the Prototype stage. The team in a statement said “We’ve been working on a new device that’s now in early testing with our team outside the lab. We look forward to sharing more in the near future.”
The Essential Phone as we can see has a weird form factor, and one not usually associated with smartphones. The project GEM as it is currently called appears to be half the width of today’s conventional smartphones with a slender and elongated design. So far, the handset has been shown off in four different iridescent color options that changes hue depending on what angle the camera catches them.

The Android Co-founder in his tweet also talked about a new user interface to accommodate the “radically different form factor. How that works we do not know, but there are chances it has been tweaked for one-handed operation.
Details of the Essential phone are not yet in the open, however, we can see it has a dimple on the rear, perhaps for a fingerprint sensor, while a bulge of a single large camera sits above that. Of course, there is a single front camera smartly located within a punch-hole cut-out in the touchscreen. A tiny speaker grille is above that.
Essential phone 2?
Could this be the Essential Phone 2? Well, all that and many more we will get to find out in due course.
