Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 855 Plus Mobile Platform for premium smartphones back in July. With the updated mid-year SoC, Qualcomm aims to allow OEMs to build even more powerful flagship smartphones just before it unveils its next major flagship chipset later in December.
The SoC was well received, and since it was first unveiled, we have seen an upswing in the number of OEMs willing to stuff the SoC into their mobile devices. The ROG Phone 2, Nubia Z20, Meizu 16s, BlackShark 2 Pro, the upcoming Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro 5G are all based on the Snapdragon 855 Plus SoC, and now, the Redmi K20 Pro from Xiaomi could be joining the list soon with its Redmi K20 Pro Exclusive Edition.
Yes, Redmi is a few days times will be releasing an upgraded Redmi K20 Pro powered by Qualcomm’s latest SoC. The Brand’s General Manager has revealed that the Redmi K20 Pro Exclusive Edition with the newest SoC will see the light of the day on September 19th, although we are not sure if it will be widely rolled out.
We are not sure what other improvements the exclusive edition device will bring to the table. However, we expect the device to be able to click into the next generation mobile connectivity – the 5G. The assumption is based on the fact that the new Snapdragon 855 Plus can feature the X50 5G modem. It is also likely the device will come preloaded with Android 10 since the standard Pro version already received the Android update.
