The Mi Mix series of Xiaomi smartphones have been the most interesting of all its smartphone ranges, and the latest xIAOMI Mi Mix Alpha isnt any exception. The device is full to the brim, packing top-notch hardware never seen before in any smartphone range.
Similar to the Mi 9 Pro 5G, the Xiaomi Mi Mix Alpha also comes with the latest Snapdragon 855+ with 5G connectivity. That is, however, the least of its most appealing design and specs. While VIVO and Huawei out devices with what they termed “waterfall” display with extremely curved edges, Xiaomi has upped its game with a completely new design on the Xiaomi Mi Mix Alpha.
The Mix Alpha has what Xiaomi calls “surround screen” that wraps around the entire device with only a tiny strip that house the rear cameras. This makes the Xiaomi Mi Mix Alpha almost an entirely all-screen smartphone. While the Nex 3 from Vivo claims a 99.6% screen-to-body ratio, the Alpha boasts of an insane 180 percent screen-to-body ratio, the highest ever in the industry. As a result, the Xiaomi Mi Mix Alpha ditches physical buttons for Pressure-sensitive volume buttons on the side of the phone, while the traditional earpiece receiver and proximity sensor are also been dropped for display acoustic technology.
Xiaomi employs a durable protective layer which optimizes the screen stack structure, while there is also an anti-false-touch technology in place that deactivates the non-active area, allowing dynamic allocation of touch commands.
Away from the design, the Xiaomi Mi Mix Alpha comes fitted with triple camera setup. It has a main 108MP 1/1.33-inch Samsung ISOCELL Bright HMX image sensor that uses Tetracell technology allowing the sensor to imitate big-pixel sensors, producing brighter 27MP images and supports four-in-one Super Pixel to produce large 1.6μm pixels under low-light conditions. The sensor gets an ISOCELL Plus and smart ISO with four-axis optical image stabilization (OIS) to ensure stable videos, while it is aided by a 20MP ultra wide-angle camera which supports 1.5 cm super macro and a 12MP telephoto camera that supports 2x optical zoom and Dual PD focus.
Other specs include the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ processor with 5G connectivity that powers the Mi 9 Pro, 12GB of RAM, and 512GB of storage. It comes with a slightly larger 4,050mAh battery with 40W wired fast-charging, and no reverse charging this time around That last spec would perhaps suggest that Xiaomi doesn’t imagine you having the whole screen turned on all the time.
Xiaomi says the Mix Alpha is a “concept smartphone” and so isnt pushing it to the mass market. However, it did say it will churn out a limited number of the device perhaps, limited to the Chinese market. The limited Mi Mix Alpha is expected to hit the market later in December at about19,999 yuan, or about $2,800.
