Huawei Mate 30 Rumors: Release Date, Specs and Price

2 Likes Comment

The Mate 30 series of phones, from Huawei, is coming soon. And we are seriously expecting them. We say ‘them’, because we are actually expecting four Mate phones: the regular Mate 30, Mate 30 Pro, Mate 30 RS Porsche Design and Mate 30 Lite. At least this is usually the case with previous releases. But for the sake of this article, we shall mainly be focusing on the Huawei Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro.

The Mate line-up had always come with the intention of giving the P line-up, some sort of boost. But the increment is usually very noticeable. And somehow it reminds us of what Samsung does with its Note line-up, which had extended to the Note 10.

So here, we expect a bigger screen than the Huawei P30, some little perks here and there in terms of added features and functionalities, a bigger battery, and a stylus pen. Of course, a different design too.

What we’ve come to know is that offering all these added features always comes with an increased price tag. So do expect a higher price than the P30 too.

The God of War (off to war!)

When we named the Mate 30s the God of War, we aren’t referring to Huawei’s recent ‘war’ with the American government (the Huawei Android Ban). Instead, we speak of the big improvements the Huawei Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro aims to bring, over the previous Mate 20s, we speak of its possible 5G capabilities, we speak of its possibility to use the fastest processor Huawei’s HiSilicon has ever built for mobile, we speak of its possibility to include an insane fast charging tech (55W), we speak of a possible Penta lens camera, just like we saw on the Nokia 9, we speak of a phone that may be fated to disrupt the mobile industry in a positive way. The ill-fated mobile industry has seen lots of disruptions in its lifetime, really. But can all these disruptions be compared to that which Huawei aims to bring with the Mate 30 series? You’re bound to find out soon.

Huawei Mate 30 Release Date

While the Mate 30 Lite may come towards the end of August, we expect the Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro to be arriving around October. If not for anything, for the fact that tradition has to be respected.

If the Mate 30 duo launches on October, it’s just that Huawei is keeping up with its age-long tradition of launching the Mate series around the October of each year.

If the Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro does not come with 5G as we expect, then there could be a December refresh of the phone which may come with 5G capability, according to some leaked Huawei product roadmap.

Huawei Mate 30 Chipset

The Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro may come with even better chipset than the P30 flagship of this year. Seeing how closely HiSilicon trails Qualcomm’s footsteps, the former is rumored to be launching a refresh to the Kirin 980, it would be called Kirin 985, in response to Qualcomm’s release of the Snapdragon 855 Plus.

What’s even more interesting is that Huawei could be embedding its 5G modem into this new processor. So any Huawei phone that has it, has the potential to run on any 5G network, of course, if the right technology is built into the phone itself.

Added to that is that the Kirin 985 will run on a 7-nanometer Extreme Ultra Violet process technology, which may maintain the same chip architecture with the Kirin 980, but will increase its clock rate.

If these happen, the Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro may have 5G support, and they’ll be faster than the Huawei P30.

Huawei Mate 30 Camera

Not much had been said about Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro’s camera, and indeed nothing had been said about its front camera. But its back camera had generated quite a bit of buzz, especially from some leaked photos, some of which seem to suggest that the Mate 30s will have circular camera housings with some four cameras inside of it, one of which has 5x optical zoom, and a LED flash. Those were the more recent releases.

Huawei Mate 30

But before that, a case design patent reportedly filed by Huawei had suggested that the Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro will have rectangular camera housings which could house about five cameras. We are inclined to believe this one because that’s more of the reigning camera design these days, and the upcoming iPhone 11 will reportedly have it too.

Regardless of which design it ends up coming with, you can be sure that the camera will be Leica branded.

Huawei Mate 30 Software

Earlier, in May, when the US government banned Huawei from accessing most of the services delivered by American companies, which included Android operating system, it became open to the whole universe, that Huawei had been working on its own OS which was supposedly called HongMeng OS. This operating system was rumored to replace Android in case something like this happened. And so there had been a lot of questions about whether Huawei would continue making phones with Android, which it was banned from, or if it would incorporate its own operating system into its future devices.

The fact was that the whole thing was a misinterpretation, HongMeng OS was being built for a different purpose instead.

That cleared, the Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro will likely be shipping with Android Pie, or Android Q, if the later would be ready before the phones are announced. If not, then Pie.

Huawei Mate 30 Price

The Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro may cost even more than the Mate 20 duo because of trends. It’s like a tradition that Huawei would normally add 100 on top of its price for the previous iteration of the Mate phones, and so the price keeps going up, and up.

That said, we think the Mate 30 Pro will cost around 999 EUR. And Mate 30, around 599 EUR.

Other Specifications of The Huawei Mate 30

According to a report from new.qq.com, a Chinese news site, the Mate 30 will also come with 55W fast charging capability, a 4200 mAh battery, and a 6.71-inch display using OLED technology.
