Chinese smartphone maker and BBK subsidiary OPPO has expanded its smartphones portfolio with the unleashing of the OPPO Reno 2 series. The Reno2 series succeeds the OPPO Reno first released earlier this year, and as expected, the series comes in the form of OPPO Reno 2, OPPO Reno 2Z, and OPPO Reno 2F. All three devices look similar, though not without some design and Hardware differences.
OPPO Reno 2, Reno 2Z, and Reno 2F similarities
All three OPPO Reno 2 phones share the same rear quad camera setup, same 6.5” AMOLED displays with pop-up selfie cams as earlier rumored, and are all powered by 4,000mAh batteries with VOOC 3.0 fast charging (20W). Notably, all three devices will go on sale at some point later via Flipkart, Amazon, and Oppo partner stores in India.
OPPO Reno 2 Specs and Features
Starting off with the most advanced of the trio, the OPPO Reno2 gets a large 6.5” AMOLED with about 93.1% screen to body ratio, all thanks to the trademark Shark-fin which houses the front-facing camera. And speaking of the selfie cam, the OPPO Reno 2 is crammed with a 16MP shooter that pop-up in just 0.8s and supports video bokeh.
On the flip side, the smartphone maker threw in a total of four cameras into the device. The main is a 48MP Sony IMX586 1/2.0” sensor with f/1.7 aperture, OIS, as well as Ultra Steady Video. Aside from the main shooter, there is an 8MP ultra wide-angle camera with a 116° lens, coupled with a 13MP telephoto shooter (1/3.4”, f/2.4) with 5x hybrid zoom, while a 2MP monochromatic camera seals off the camera unit.
The OPPO Reno 2 compare to the Reno 1 comes with an upgraded SoC. The new device is powered by a Snapdragon 730G chipset with 8GB of RAM and 256GB storage.
The device will go on sale later in September – 20th to be precise, at INR 37,000 ($515/€465).
OPPO Reno 2Z
The OPPO Reno 2Z has the same 6.53” AMOLED panel with slightly thicker bezels (91.6% StB), but drops the trademark shark-fin for a 16Mp selfie sensor with the standard pop-up camera mechanism. It retains the 48MP IMX586 sensor which is fast becoming a standard, although 64MP smartphones are coming in thick and fast.It retains the ultra steady video feature as well, but trades that for the OIS. An 8MP 119° ultra-wide-angle camera, as well as a duo of 2MP cameras used for portrait shots, seals off the camera unit.
Other than differences in cameras, the OPPO Reno 2Z drops SD 730G for MediaTek’s Helio P90 chipset with the same memory configuration – 8/256GB. You can already pre-order the 2Z, but wont ship until September 6th.The Reno 2Z asking price is INR 30,000 ($420/€375).
OPPO Reno 2F
The OPPO Reno 2F is the mist basic of the trio. It shares practically everything with the Reno 2Z, except that it gets a different SoC, and perhaps a slight camera differences. The Reno 2F has the Helio P70 chipset with 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage under its hood.
The camera remains, though reports have it that the main cam isn’t a Sony IMX586 sensor, but a 48MP Samsung ISOCELL GM1. Other specs and features remain the same.
OPPO Reno 2F pricing and availability
The Reno 2F hits the shelves later in November, though OPPO has yet to release its retail price.
